Day One: Welcome to Tbilisi
Touch down at the airport, and you’ll be transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to relax, or possibly to explore: The Georgian capital Tbilisi has one of the world’s most enticing Old Towns, with buzzy labyrinthine lanes, wrought iron balconies and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. At the other end of the spectrum, the city is known for its futuristic Rike Park, underground clubs and hipster bars.

Day Two: Exploring the city
You’ll find out more about Tbilisi today, as you hit the streets with your private guide. From its importance as a stop on the Silk Road to its regeneration into a modern-day metropolis, you’ll uncover the city’s history as you visit the fascinating Metekhi Temple, renowned Sulfur Baths, and 4th-century fortress of Narikala. Wander the streets seeking out some of the city’s best artisans, and hit the Old Town for Sioni Cathedral and the Peace Bridge. You’ll also explore the National Museum and Freedom Square, before taking a cable car high above the city for spectacular views over its streets.

Day Three: To the winelands
Georgia’s famous wine region, Kakheti Province, is your destination for today. Along with your private guide, you’ll drive into countryside dotted with ancient churches and vineyard after vineyard. Make your first stop at the hill town of Sighnaghi, for cobbled streets, pastel balconies and stunning views over the Alazani valley and Caucasus Mountains. Back in the countryside, you’ll experience a tasting at one of the area’s fantastic wineries before continuing on to the Tsinandali Estate, a sprawling complex owned by the noble Chavchavadze family, with landscaped gardens and a historic vineyard. If time allows, you’ll stop off at the peaceful, 11th-century Alaverdi Cathedral, before returning to Tbilisi via the forested mountains of Gombori.

Day Four: Into the mountains
It’s an early start today, as you set off to explore Georgia’s ancient monuments and the Caucasus mountains. First stop is the fairytale town of Mtskheta, the UNESCO-listed ancient capital of Georgia with a history dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. You’ll see the Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral before travelling along the ancient military road to the Caucasus Mountains, crossing the breathtaking Jvari Pass through the mountains on the way to Kazbegi, a valley town surrounded by peaks including the looming Mount Kazbek (the third highest in Georgia). Visit the Sameba Church, at 2150m above sea level, and return to Tbilisi via the impressively located Ananuri architectural complex, a castle set above the Aragvi River.
